- 一般情况直接在词尾加 -s：book→books, cat→cats。
- 以 s、x、ch、sh 结尾的加 -es：bus→buses, box→boxes, watch→watches, brush→brushes。
- 以辅音字母+y 结尾的，变 y 为 i 再加 -es：city→cities, baby→babies；元音字母+y 直接加 -s：boy→boys, day→days。
- 以 f/fe 结尾的，通常变 f/fe 为 v 再加 -es：knife→knives, leaf→leaves；但也有直接加 -s 的：roof→roofs。
